Hello world, Tom here! And I am taking over the Six Sweet Seals blog to tell you all about our adventure to Africa this summer! Soooo buckle up and get ready to travel half way around the world with the Flat Seals and their Tom..Our trip was 11 days including travel. Before departing from DFW we had to chow down on “the final cheeseburger” complete with fries and a Dr. Pepper. Then off to London! After a late night 9 hour flight, we exchanged some dollars for pounds and woke up with the help of organic coffee. Of course we had to see what shenanigans we could get into during our layover. After another 9 hour flight we landed in Kenya and immediately departed on a shorter flight to Malawi. The purpose behind going to Africa was a medical mission trip. We went with a team of doctors, nurses, youth, pastors and other Christians to take care of sick people in the villages but more importantly tell them about Jesus. This is Dr. Shirley, a general surgeon, meeting the Flat Seals. He was not only able to take care of patients in the clinic but he performed 5 surgical procedures!
It was so much fun to play with, take care of, and love on the sweet kids in the villages. They were so excited to meet us but we were more excited to meet them. Most of our days were spent in this little make shift village clinic taking care of a grand total of 1,307 people! WOW! We treated malaria, stomach problems, colds (because it was their winter season), aches and pains, and a plethora of many other problems.
On our last day we traveled up country to go on a river Safari! We saw crocodiles, hippos, waterbucks, warthogs, elephants, monkeys, and river eagles. It was so much fun! After the safari, we went to Hippo Lodge to have breakfast. On the table was a sign that said “beware of monkeys” because they will come take your food. Outside of the lodge were the biggest trees I have ever seen! The next day we started the long voyage home, a little sad to leave but excited to see our people and share our adventures with them!We traveled from Malawi to Zambia to Kenya to Paris where we had a layover to see what the city of love (at least the airport) was all about. When in Paris, you must see the eiffel tower. And Disney World Paris! Can you spot the Flat Seals on the castle? Finally, we arrived back home to the great state of Texas and were welcomed by this sign at the airport.
