Here we go people! By the time we go to bed tonight either Hilary or Donald will be president! Yikes! I’m heading to cast my votes shortly and then like everyone else, I’ll sit and watch for the results.
I decided when this whole election process started that I was not going to get involved in all the political hoopla. I honestly think it’s rather ridiculous to argue and fight about all this political stuff. We have our right to vote, so vote and be done with it. I honestly don’t think anyone would change their mind/view about political policies or who they are going to vote for if I put my two cents out there so I decided to keep it all to myself.
But with all that being said, there are a lot of things on my heart when it comes to politics in America. We are always hearing candidates talking about change, but they use that word so vaguely and most of the time we don’t know what “change” we’re actually voting for. Trump’s big saying is Make America Great Again. Is America not great? I think it is really great but I also think there are a lot of things that need to change too. I’m so thankful I am an American. I’m so thankful for the freedoms I enjoy everyday. But when I look at our country as a whole, I would be lying if I said I wasn’t concerned about a lot of things. So what is a girl to do?
Long after this election is over, both Donald and Hilary will still be rich. They will still live in their mansions in the nicest of neighborhoods (one will live in the White House). They will never worry about the clothes they wear, or if there will be food on the table, or if they can afford health insurance, paying for little league fees or dance classes, buying birthday and Christmas presents, or sending their children or grandchildren to college. They will continue to have their body guards so for the most part, they’ll still be pretty safe. But what about the rest of us? I’m a mom of six small kids. I worry about feeding them, clothing them, their safety, and their future. The president will make policies that will affect us, but in reality they are not the ones who are going to make America great again, I am and you are!
I’m a firm believer that change starts at home. How can I make America great again? Well I believe it starts by being a law abiding citizen, being honest, working hard to provide for my family, helping those who are less fortunate or in need, being nice to others and treating others with respect, and the list goes on and on. It starts with me. And I have to teach my six children about hard work, respect, and to help others. It’s my job to teach my kids right from wrong. And it’s my job to teach my kids to pray for our leaders. No matter who is elected, they deserve our respect and our prayers.
Today when I cast my vote, I’m doing it for the future of the six little people who mean the most to me in this whole wide world. I’m voting for their future and so are you!
Pray for America! Pray for our leaders! And may God continue to bless America.
