Flat Seals Goes to Guatemala

Hello people!

Tom here. The Flats Seals and I spent a week in Guatemala for a medical mission trip and I’m here to give you a snippet of our fantastic week!

We traveled out of DFW straight to Guatemala. The flight was about 3 hours and the time difference is only 1 hour. We then had to take a bus from the airport in the city out into the mountains where we stayed for the week.

Our medical team consisted of around 25 people and included physicians, practitioners, nurses, interpreters, and techs. For the next 5 days, we traveled up-down-around-and through the mountains to remote villages to reach the most needy. We would roll into town, set up our stations, and get straight to seeing the line of people waiting on us.ย We had long, hard days but helping meet the needs of so many people (physically and spiritually) was a blessing that was worth every drop of sweat.

For lunch the villages would cook as sort of a ‘thank you.’ They brought their best and prepared it all morning. It was really good, even the Flat Seals liked it! Considering the chickens would walk around our clinic and then disappear, I would say its the freshest most organic chicken soup you’ll ever eat! ๐Ÿ™‚

In total, we saw 1,258 patients, filled 4,114 prescriptions, gave 159 referrals to the next group that is coming for surgical procedures and making glasses!, fitted 132 pairs of reading glasses, gave 578 bibles, 690 gospel tracts, handed out 30 suitcases of shoes and clothes, and saw 250 professions of faith! WHEW! God is so good!

The last day, the medical team got the opportunity to visit the school and received 150 sweet hugs as a reward for our service. If a heart could burst, that’s the moment it would have. Thankful for this incredible week, the memories made, the family gained, the sweet souls of Guatemala and their beautiful country, and especially for our awesome God.

WHAT A WEEK! We enjoyed a movie on our flight home, arrived safely back to Texas, ate a good ole cheeseburger and we’re already daydreaming about our next adventure..

Be Blessed,

Flat Seals

I have another Flat Seals adventure to tell you about and this one is pretty special because it’s not a trip one of our family members went on, these pictures are of trips one of my readers went on and was kind enough to carry us along!!! How cool is that?!?!!

When Cindy asked if she could take the Flat Seals along on her vacations, I was so surprised, very honored, and excitingly said yes! Here’s some pictures from our adventures with the Dotson’s!

Cindy bought this album on the cruise ship and put all our pictures in it for us. And she was nice enough to label all the pictures so we’d know all the places we’d been.

The Flat Seals went to Illinois, New Orleans, on a Caribbean Cruise, Honduras, Belize, and Cozumel.

Thank you Cindy and Randy for letting the Flat Seals tag along on all your adventures.ย

Be blessed,

Flat Seals African Adventure

Hello world, Tom here! And I am taking over the Six Sweet Seals blog to tell you all about our adventure to Africa this summer! Soooo buckle up and get ready to travel half way around the world withย the Flatย Seals and their Tom..IMG_2947Our trip was 11 days including travel. ย Before departing from DFW we had to chow down on “the final cheeseburger” complete with fries and a Dr. Pepper. Then off to London!IMG_2946After a late night 9 hour flight, we exchanged some dollars for pounds and woke up with the help of organic coffee. Of course we had to see what shenanigans we could get into during our layover.IMG_2945IMG_2944IMG_2942IMG_2943After another 9 hour flight we landed in Kenya and immediately departed on a shorter flight to Malawi.IMG_0778IMG_0779The purpose behind going to Africa was a medical mission trip. We went with a team of doctors, nurses, youth, pastors and other Christians to take care of sick people in the villages but more importantly tell them about Jesus. This is Dr. Shirley, a general surgeon, meeting the Flat Seals. He was not only able to take care of patients in the clinic but he performed 5 surgical procedures!IMG_2940IMG_3132IMG_1051

It was so much fun to play with, take care of, and love on the sweet kids in the villages. They were so excited to meet us but we were more excited to meet them.IMG_2939Most of our days were spent in this little make shift village clinic taking care of a grand total of 1,307 people! WOW! We treated malaria, stomach problems, colds (because it was their winter season), aches and pains, and a plethora of many other problems.

On our last day we traveled up country to go on a river Safari! We saw crocodiles, hippos, waterbucks, warthogs, elephants, monkeys, and river eagles. It was so much fun!IMG_1332IMG_1163IMG_1165IMG_3147IMG_1178IMG_3161IMG_1199IMG_1210IMG_1212IMG_3131IMG_1216IMG_1217IMG_1218IMG_3133IMG_1227After the safari, we went to Hippo Lodge to have breakfast. On the table was a sign that said “beware of monkeys” because they will come take your food. Outside of the lodge were the biggest trees I have ever seen!IMG_1229IMG_1236IMG_3139The next day we started the long voyage home, a little sad to leave but excited to see our people and share our adventures with them!IMG_1286IMG_2936IMG_1288IMG_2937IMG_3150IMG_3137IMG_2938We traveled from Malawi to Zambia to Kenya to Paris where we had a layover to see what the city of love (at least the airport) was all about.IMG_3143When in Paris, you must see the eiffel tower.IMG_3134IMG_3148IMG_1307IMG_1308And Disney World Paris! Can you spot the Flat Seals on the castle?IMG_2935Finally, we arrived back home to the great state of Texas and were welcomed by this sign at the airport.

Be blessed!!!!

Flat Seals Take Vegas!!

So, it’s no secret that having 6 young kids making everything much more difficult. Over the Independence Day weekend, we took the kids to Dallas to visit our friends, Dave and Paula, and to have some fun. It was our first time to take the kids on an overnight adventure and we quickly figured out, one night was all we could handle. But I don’t think that should keep us from showing the world to our children. So, we decided to go on vacation with our loved ones, hence, Flat Seals. (Yes, I got this idea from Flat Stanley.) Our family members took pictures of the kids everywhere they went on vacation.

First up, my sister and brother-in-law, Kayla and Jeremy, took us to Las Vegas! They took us to the Venecian, Bobby Flay’s Burger Joint, and the Bellagio. Take a look at our fun Vegas trip!

Loaded on the plane and heading out to Vegas!
